We Filled our Brownie Point Jar!

Late last week, our Brownie Point Jar was nearly full (this picture was from the beginning of last week).  We had high hopes to fill it by Friday, but we just missed that goal.  1A worked very hard on Monday and not only filled our jar, but we even earned a few points towards another filling of the jar!

Mmmmmmmm............ Brownies!

We were so excited to enjoy our tasty treat!

Brownies make us a little silly!

Here's a little slideshow of us taking a bite:

First graders, what is your favorite homemade treat (brownies, cookies- what kind?, cupcakes, etc.)?  Post a comment to share with all of us.  I'll start...... Brownies & Chocolate Chip cookies are my favorite!

MFW And A Trip!

Yesterday, first grade visited the Meeting House for the first time.  In an effort to ease into it, our first visit in first grade consists of a period of reflection outside.  The children found a good spot, observed the exterior of the meeting house, and created a sketch.  Here's a few collages of our time (Sophia was absent and the photo of Max didn't turn out- sorry):

Several students said this was their highlight of the day yesterday!  I enjoyed it too.  Later this week we will go inside the Meeting House.  Beginning in October, parents are welcome to join us for Meeting For Worship during our first visit of the month.  Stay tuned to the FSB website for these dates coming soon.

Today we took our first LS trip of the year.  After collecting soap, toothpaste, and deodorant, we gathered our donations and headed to CARES, a food pantry in our community.

We just talked about bucket filling earlier in the day and knowing we helped someone else, helped to fill our own bucket.  Here are our totals:

53 bars of soap
2 liquid hand soap
22 tubes of toothpaste
18 deodorant
2 toothbrushes

WAY TO GO 1A!!

Parents, I hope you're having a great week.  I look forward to seeing you on Thursday evening for Back to School Night beginning at 7:00.  If you'd like to order books from Scholastic, please get your orders in by the end of the day on Wednesday.  Click here to place your order:

First graders, post about a way you filled someone's bucket this week (other than donating to CARES)!

What a Great Week!

We had such a great full week in 1A!  We continued to learn more about first grade, visited all of our specials, got to know each other better, lost some teeth (Annabel and Roisin), met with our 5th grade Reading Buddies, and laughed a ton during our first assembly.

Here's a few photos from our Summer Picture Sharing (be sure to bring your picture or illustration in if you haven't yet):

Our First Full Day!

It was a fabulous day in 1A today.  We started off our day by earning lots of Brownie Points.  Ask your child what these are!  We learned more about first grade today, went to the computer lab to check it out, and got to visit out our classroom library.  After recess we gathered as an entire first grade class to read the story, First Grade Jitters.  Then we enjoyed Jitter Juice to help make our jitters disappear!

Our day didn't end there.  After lunch, we went to Science and P.E. and enjoyed our first convocation of the year.

Although homework hasn't officially begun in first grade, please see that your child is reading daily and practicing shoe tying would be a great idea too if they are wearing shoes with laces.

On Monday, we'll begin sharing our summer pictures.  Please be sure to bring these in (photos or illustrations are fine).  If you haven't brought in your book list (a list of the books you read or listened to this summer), please send that in soon too.  Parents, please remember to complete the parent questionnaire ASAP.  Thanks so much!

Day 1! So Much Fun!

We had a great first day of school in 1A!  We read and listened to Pete the Cat Rocking in my School Shoes and were very surprised when Pete left us a note in the book.  He told us he was checking out our cool school so we set off to see if we could find him.  He was too quick for us, but he left us a surprise in our room.

And a silly picture just for fun!

1A Students, what was your favorite part of our first day together?  Post a comment to share with all of us. Remember to only use your first name.   Use the pull down menu below the comment box to select Open ID/URL and then you can type your first name.

Enjoy your day off tomorrow and have a nice holiday to those who are celebrating Rosh Hashanah!  I'll be excited to see you again on Friday!

Orientation

Friends in 1A enjoyed our short time together today.  We listened to the story, You're Finally Here!  by Melanie Watt.

We made wishes for a great year with Magic Playdoh and decorated nametags that we'll use to help our new teachers in the Lower School get to know our names.

Here's a slideshow from the morning!  I can't wait to spend more time with our 1A Friends tomorrow!
