Snow Much Fun!

Recess is often a highlight of our day, but it's even more fun when we have snow!  Click on a picture to make it larger.

Thank you, parents, for sending the kids in with their snow clothes so they could enjoy it even more today!

First graders, what do you like to do in the snow?  Post a comment to share with all of us.

Another Mystery......

Our first Mystery Reader for December popped into our classroom today.  Let's see if you know who this person is:

  • I have brown hair.
  • I wear glasses.
  • I like Science.
  • I love to go hiking and backpacking.
  • I work on electronics for spacecraft and other projects.
Any ideas?.......... Annabel was pretty sure she knew this person after the fourth clue and the fifth clue confirmed it!  It was her Dad, Mr. K!

Mr. K read a book that was his favorite from when he was a child- Bored- Nothing to Do!  by Peter Spier.

In the story, the boys were extremely creative and made an airplane!  Mr. K wanted us to be creative too, so he gave us and airplane to make at home.  Thanks for visiting us today, Mr. K and thanks for the airplanes!

First graders and parents, what do you like to do when you are bored?  Post a comment to share with all of us.

It's December!

It was a delightful December PLUSS Day!   We started our day with an all  Lower School Meeting For Worship.  Mrs. Derengowski, our Lower School Assistant Principal, read the book The World Belongs to You by Riccardo Bozzi.

Next we gathered in our classroom for a day of just being together!  1A students played many different games together and enjoyed each other's company.

This was quite the game of Nintendo Monopoly!...... It could have gone on for hours longer!

Our day wrapped up with an all Lower School DEAR (Drop Everything and Read!) time!  We all grabbed a good book or two and found a cozy spot to read.
Some of us even curled up by the "fire!"

During closing circle we all agreed we should have more PLUSS Days just like this!  It was such a nice day together!

First graders, what was your favorite part of our December PLUSS Day?  Please post a comment to share with all of us.

It's a Mystery Reader

Last week, we prepared for our final November Mystery Reader.  Here were our clues:

  • I am the mother of two boys.
  • I work with people who are handicapped
  • I am the wife of a Preacher
  • "You are your mother's child!"
  • I have red hair
Do you know who THIS mystery reader was?  Quentin was very quick to figure this one out and knew it was his mom, Mrs. S!

Mrs. S read The Little Engine That Could and shared information with us about Braille.  It was a great visit and we learned a lot!

Thank you, Mrs. S!

Unfortunately, I wasn't at school that day so I couldn't take any pictures (sorry!).

First graders and families, when is a time you've had to be resilient like the Little Engine and keep trying and trying?  Post a comment to share with all of us.

Words of Wisdom

We enjoyed some words of wisdom this morning from Kid President.  Take a peek below.
