1A friends, what was your favorite Balloon Poppin' Fun Activity from this week?  Post a comment to share with all of us. Would you like to do something like this at home?  Take a peek at a 1A student's blog to learn how you could do this:

I hope you have a wonderful long weekend and enjoy the holiday with friends and family!

Sharing our Knowledge

We've continued to enjoy math on day 10 with Mrs. Meagher's second grade class.  Now that the students in my math class are "experts" on money, we thought it would be a great idea to share our knowledge with them!  We shared a couple of our favorite things from our money unit to help them learn about the coins and their value and briefly introduced to them how to count coins.  Here's a few pictures:

First and second graders, what have you enjoyed most about our day 10 math classes together?  Would you recommend that first and second grade classes continue this in the future?  Explain why or why not.  Please post  comment to share with all of us!  Remember to only use your first name in your comment.

Going Shopping!

In my math class we've been learning about money!  We've identified the most common coins and have talked about dollars too.  We've even learned how to count money amounts.  We put all of our skills to use today when we went shopping at the Quaker Closet (our school store).

We were so excited to spend the money we used during our unit!

Mrs. Cullen had set up a table of items JUST for US!

Looking at all the great items and making our selections.

Lizzy made her decisions first and went to the register.

Lukas was next!

Lily made some great choices...... would she have enough money?

She did!

Eliza brought her purchases to the counter next.

Charlotte found a few nifty writing utensils!

A few friends came back for an additional purchase.

Kennedy was VERY thoughtful about her purchases.

Checking to see if she has enough money.

Friends who were finished, shared their items and examined their receipts.

It was a successful shopping trip!

On our way back to the Lower School!

Thank you, Mrs. Cullen for all of your assistance this morning!  It was so much fun to put our skills to use at a REAL store.

First graders, did you enjoy this unit on money?  What was something new you learned?  How can you use this skill in the future?  Post a comment to share with all of us.

Spring Sing 2014

Our LS community gathered together for our Annual Spring Sing on Friday.  Music has been one of 1A's favorite specials this year and we were all excited to share our songs with our family and friends.  Here's just one of the many songs that were performed.

This was Dr. Culbertson's final Spring Sing as she will be retiring at the end of this year. Dr. C, THANK YOU!  Thank you for teaching music to our lower school students for so many years and for another fantastic performance.  We wish you all the best as you enter this new chapter in your life and will certainly miss you and your gifts.

First Graders, what was your favorite song that you sang this year for Spring Sing?  Or, what has been your favorite thing about music class this year?  Post a comment to share with all of us or a note for Dr. C (I'll share this post with her too!).
