A Look Back at Our Week!

It's hard to believe we've officially entered the end of the year!  These are the weeks I wish time would go just a little bit slower as there is always so much I want to get through and more fun to be enjoyed in good ole room 230!  This year the days seem to be flying by especially quick.

Taking a look back at our week we popped a few more balloons.  On Monday, our balloon revealed we'd enjoy a special treat.  We started our day together with donuts (a favorite of many of our 1A friends).  On Tuesday we enjoyed the warm temperatures with some extra recess and on Wednesday we worked to blow bubbles with gum!  Not everyone was willing to pose for the camera, but many were:

One friend was already an expert, but she offered assistance to others!

GOT IT!!!!

After many pieces of gum and lots of practice a few more friends in 1A had mastered the art of blowing bubbles!  There was even talk of figuring out how to blow a bubble in a bubble! Sounds like a great summer activity!  Our week concluded with popsicles for day #15 and bubbles on Friday for day #14.

Friends in my LA class have been working all year to expand their vocabulary.  During our final weeks we're working through a deck of Big Word Cards:

Adding our new word to our vocabulary journal

This week we learned cantankerous and mellifluous.  If your child is in my LA class, have you heard them practice using either of these words?  We all were certain our singing on Friday would be mellifluous!

I hope you're having a wonderful weekend!

Chalk Fun

We're celebrating a wonderful year in first grade!  Each day, we pop a balloon to reveal something special for the next day.  On Friday, our special activity was "Fun with Chalk."  We took to the sidewalk to beautify it with our creations.  Thank you, Mrs. P for taking these pictures and sending them while I was away.

So far we've enjoyed the following:
#20 Bring a Reading Buddy (aka a stuffed animal) to Read With
#19 Chalk
#18 Special Treat (we enjoyed delicious flower power donuts this morning)
#17 Check back soon........

First graders, how do you think we should celebrate a great year together? Post a comment to share with all of us.

Travels to Peru

Last Monday, we packed our bags and said adios to El Salvador.  It was time to board the plane again and travel to Lima, Peru.

Captain Knott greeted us from the cockpit and shared that our flight would be approximately 1, 957 miles with an estimated cost of $805.83 per traveler.  We enjoyed seeing the sights via our in flight entertainment and enjoyed our delicious in flight snack- Peruvian Corn Nuts.

We can't wait to learn more about this interesting country!

Movin' on Up!

Last week, we took a trip up the steps to SECOND GRADE!  Before our visit, we talked about the end of the school year approaching.  Feelings of anxiety, sadness, excitement, and a sense of being ready were shared.  1A students created a list of thoughtful questions they'd like to ask a second grader during our visit.

First grade students were paired up with a second grade expert and given a thorough overview of all things second grade by 2A students.

We reflected a little after our visit and many of our feelings that weren't so positive had changed! For now, we're going to enjoy our final weeks in first grade!

Reading With Little Friends

Friends in my language arts class enjoyed a little trip to Little Friends.  First graders were paired up with 4 year olds, selected a good book, and snuggled up for some reading together.  It was a great way to practice our reading skills!
