Travels to Peru

Last Monday, we packed our bags and said adios to El Salvador.  It was time to board the plane again and travel to Lima, Peru.

Captain Knott greeted us from the cockpit and shared that our flight would be approximately 1, 957 miles with an estimated cost of $805.83 per traveler.  We enjoyed seeing the sights via our in flight entertainment and enjoyed our delicious in flight snack- Peruvian Corn Nuts.

We can't wait to learn more about this interesting country!

Movin' on Up!

Last week, we took a trip up the steps to SECOND GRADE!  Before our visit, we talked about the end of the school year approaching.  Feelings of anxiety, sadness, excitement, and a sense of being ready were shared.  1A students created a list of thoughtful questions they'd like to ask a second grader during our visit.

First grade students were paired up with a second grade expert and given a thorough overview of all things second grade by 2A students.

We reflected a little after our visit and many of our feelings that weren't so positive had changed! For now, we're going to enjoy our final weeks in first grade!

Reading With Little Friends

Friends in my language arts class enjoyed a little trip to Little Friends.  First graders were paired up with 4 year olds, selected a good book, and snuggled up for some reading together.  It was a great way to practice our reading skills!

Puppet Pals

In our language arts class, we've been talking (again) about retelling a story as a way to demonstrate our comprehension.  This week we read two stories:

Today, we used the iPads and an app called Puppet Pals to create a retelling of one of these stories or our own spin off based on one of these stories.

Here's a few of our puppet shows for you to enjoy:

Grandfriends Day!

Each April, our community invites grandparents and other special friends to join our students for an afternoon together.  On Friday, the students in 1A were so excited to greet their grandparents and special friends or "grandfriends" as we sometimes like to say!

After finding our guests on the playground we enjoyed Meeting for Worship together in the Meeting House.  Next on our agenda was a visit to the Annual All School Art Show.  The first graders were so eager to point out and share their art with their grandfriends and to enjoy the art from our youngest students in Pre-K all the way to our Seniors in upper school!

Finally, we walked back to our classroom to celebrate spring and create coffee filter flowers with our grandfriends.

It was a lovely afternoon!  Thanks you to all of our grandparents and special friends for traveling, taking time out of your schedule, and for sharing the afternoon with us!
